Evil Dead BURN Arrives to Theaters Today

The sixth movie in the Evil Dead franchise introduces a new family, a secluded home, and another brutal encounter with the demonic Deadites.

The Evil Dead franchise is heading back to the big screen, and this family reunion is about to become a complete nightmare.

Evil Dead Burn opens in North American theaters on Friday, July 10, 2026. The supernatural horror movie is the sixth theatrical installment in the franchise that began with Sam Raimi’s The Evil Dead in 1981.

This time, the story follows Alice, a grieving woman who travels to the secluded home of her late husband’s family in search of comfort. The visit quickly falls apart as members of the family begin transforming into Deadites, turning what should have been a time of mourning into a violent fight for survival.

Souheila Yacoub leads the movie as Alice. The cast also includes Hunter Doohan as Joseph, Luciane Buchanan as Thya, Tandi Wright as Susan, Erroll Shand as Edgar, Maude Davey as Polly, and George Pullar as Will.

Evil Dead Burn is directed by French filmmaker Sébastien Vaniček, who previously directed the creature feature Infested. Vaniček also wrote the screenplay with Florent Bernard, while original Evil Dead producers Sam Raimi and Rob Tapert returned to produce the latest installment.

Rather than continuing the story of Beth and Kassie from Evil Dead Rise, the new movie introduces another group of characters who become trapped in their own encounter with the forces connected to the Book of the Dead.

That approach has become increasingly common for the franchise. The 2013 Evil Dead movie followed Mia and her friends inside a remote cabin, while Evil Dead Rise moved the horror into a Los Angeles apartment building. Evil Dead Burn once again changes the location and characters while keeping the Deadites, demonic possession, and extreme violence at the center of the story.

The trailers show the family gathering inside an aging home before their grief and existing tensions are made much worse by a demonic presence. What begins as an uncomfortable reunion eventually becomes a blood covered fight against possessed relatives who know exactly how to use the family’s fears against them.

Vaniček has made it clear that he wanted to create one of the most intense Evil Dead movies yet. One particularly violent scene was reportedly removed so the theatrical version could receive an R rating rather than the more restrictive NC 17 rating. The director has also discussed the possibility of releasing a more graphic version of the movie in the future.

The final theatrical version is rated R and has a running time of approximately 110 minutes.

Hunter Doohan has described filming the movie as an intense experience, particularly during a major sequence set almost entirely inside a car. According to Doohan, the cast spent several days filming the scene in order so that the growing injuries and chaos would remain consistent as the sequence became more violent.

Doohan also revisited every previous Evil Dead movie before filming. He wanted to better understand the history and rules of the franchise before stepping into a story filled with Deadites and familiar mythology.

The movie arrives three years after Evil Dead Rise brought the franchise back to theaters in 2023. That film followed two sisters and a group of children trapped inside an apartment building after an ancient record unleashed another Deadite outbreak.

Evil Dead Burn keeps the family focused approach but moves the action into a more isolated setting. Instead of strangers being forced to survive together, the new movie uses a family already struggling with grief and unresolved conflict before the supernatural horror even begins.

Early reviews have been divided over just how far the movie pushes its violence. Some critics have praised its relentless energy, practical effects, and emotionally damaged characters, while others have argued that the amount of gore eventually overwhelms the story.

That disagreement may not discourage longtime Evil Dead fans. The franchise has always built its identity around creative violence, possessed characters, dark humor, and heroes being pushed far beyond what they should reasonably be able to survive.

Evil Dead Burn is opening exclusively in theaters, with Warner Bros. Pictures handling the movie’s North American release. A streaming release date has not been officially announced.
